Voniè is a Mississippi native with a B.A. in Dance Therapy from Naropa University and an M.A. in Dance/Movement Therapy and Counseling from Antioch University New England. She has 16 years of post-master’s experience and 26 years of experience working with mental illness/intellectual developmental delays and physical special needs. She has worked in private practice, outpatient day treatment for adolescents, nursing homes, and state hospitals. She is a board-certified dance/movement therapist, licensed professional counselor, approved clinical supervisor, and certified aquatic rehabilitation specialist.
Dance/movement therapy (DMT) is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to further the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of the individual. Voniè uses DMT to address needs from anxiety/stress reduction and processing trauma, to increasing interpersonal connection. She also combines the psychotherapeutic benefits of DMT with the physical therapy aspects of aquatic rehabilitation therapy.
Voniè is the Western Region Member at Large of the American Dance Therapy Association, and is active with the Multicultural Diversity Committee, Native American, Spirituality, and Disability Access Affinity groups. She has presented at mental health conferences, community-based workshops, and pop culture conventions.
Voniè works with individuals and couples, and with ages from teens though adults, combining a variety of therapeutic techniques to meet the needs of her clients. Her eclectic approach includes dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) from a Rogerian perspective. As a lifelong comic book reader and sci-fi fan, she advocates geek culture as positive for mental health and draws from this experience to help clients on their journey.
