I have 30 years of experience in private practice. My background is primarily in philosophy, dialogue, and self-inquiry, in ‘ontology’ (what has to do with being a self), in religious and spiritual traditions, and transpersonal psychology. I regard teachings that see human problems and suffering as part of our conscious development as more accurate and more helpful than disorders-based theories prevalent in modern medicine and modern psychology. They are more effective because they help us see the source of our problems with a depth that enables us to grow toward the health and fulfillment we innately long for.

The ancient notion that our struggles are tied to our not knowing ourselves can be returned to by exploring our experience and discovering how we are currently—unknowingly—answering life’s fundamental questions: how to be a self, how to have completeness, recognition, love or connection, freedom, and meaning. Seeing into the limits of our current answers to these fundamental aspects of life or being can open the way for better answers to emerge. Healing and growth are natural processes that involve shedding our limitations by becoming conscious of them. The self-understanding we achieve is self-clarity and, unlike ordinary understanding, is a change in our being.
