Parents/caregivers, do you feel as though you are parenting multiple children in one child? Has your child received previous therapy and multiple diagnoses with little or no progress? Do you feel as though you have tried everything as a parent?

If your child was adopted, experienced pre-birth and/or early childhood distress, or had medical issues or early childhood trauma, your child may be experiencing symptoms of complex PTSD and/or dissociation. I playfully apply the 4-phase model of treatment: stabilization, trauma processing, integration, and post-integration to treat these symptoms.

Play is the language children speak and can relate to. The play therapy room can provide a safer environment within which the child may engage in activities that foster attachment, grounding, and/or allow for the processing of distressing memories. I have found that integrating play therapy with energy psychology modalities, other evidenced-based techniques/therapies, and interactions with animals enhances the therapeutic process and provides gentler trauma processing. Re-experiencing or identifying specific traumatic or distressing events and related emotions are not necessary.

Parents/caregivers are the change agents and experts of their children; therefore, the therapeutic process is a partnership. I provide parents with resources, psychoeducation, parent/caregiver support sessions, as well as tools and techniques to practice between sessions.
